An interview with Robert McFetridge Promo
Robert is an artist from Northampton Pennsylvania who uses colored pencil, graphite, acrylic and airbrush to achieve the highest level of realism in his Sports paintings.
His father, a sign painter for over forty-five years was a tremendous influence of his art. In Robert’s first sports drawings he used sports cards and pictures from magazines as reference to sketch his favorite athletes. As he became more serious about the craft he wanted to address the finest detail in his work so he began combining various art media in his drawings and paintings. Sports have always been a huge part of Robert’s life. As a former Division two college football player, he has experienced everything sports have to offer. He knows that it takes a tremendous amount of hard work, dedication, and love for what one is doing in order to really be successful at it. He tries to capture as much detail and realism as humanly possible in every piece he creates.
That is why he sometimes invests over one hundred hours into his photo-realistic artworks. Whether it is an intense stare or the grace of an athlete running in full stride, his artworks attempt to bring that specific moment to life. Over the years Robert has helped raise money for many charity organizations such as The Ronald McDonald House, Lifepath, Kelly For Kids, The Andre Reed Foundation, The Deacon Jones Foundation, The Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley and Ducks Unlimited Lehigh Valley Chapter. Clients of Robert’s include the TOPPS Card Company, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, the Phoenix Suns, Mack Trucks and many athletes ranging from high school to professional. Robert’s ultra-realistic sports art has been featured in publications such as Beckett Basketball, Beckett baseball Art Issue, Lehigh Valley Style and Colored Pencil Magazine.
Although Robert’s passion is sports art, he also creates artworks of weddings, family portraits, architecture, cars and many other subjects. He will pretty much draw anything and is always accepting commissions. Robert currently teaches AP level art classes at William Allen high school in Allentown Pennsylvania. He takes great pride in helping his students develop their skills and find their identity as artists. Year after year his students earn many awards and scholarships for their art through their hard work and dedication. From https://www.artofrobmc.com/
